Huron County has a little time to find a new medical officer of health.
Following a special closed Board of Health meeting this week, board Chair Tyler Hessel announced that Perth County has volunteered to let their medical officer of health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, help out Huron for the next eight weeks. Perth has also agreed to extend that if more time is needed.
In the meantime, Hessel says the board has sent a letter to the ministry repeating the questions they asked at the last ROMA meeting. They want to know if there will be funding for a consultant to help them with a merger; how they go about applying for that funding; and is the ministry contemplating any changes to funding for health units in the next two to five years.
Hessel explains both Huron and Perth want to make sure there will be some funding consistency over the next few years if they amalgamate, and they won't suddenly be hit with some surprises.
