The council of the Municipality of Morris-Turnberry has approved a $200,000. donation to the Wingham and District Hospital.

The pledge to the Foundation's Our Hospital Our Future campaign will see the money paid in instalments over five years.

Residents of Morris-Turnberry are the second most frequent visitors to the Wingham and District Hospital, following North Huron.

Councillors met with representatives from the Hospital campaign to formally present the donation today.

Mayor Paul Gowing says, “the Wingham & District Hospital provides vital healthcare services to the residents of Morris-Turnberry and an investment in the Hospital is an investment in the future of our community.”

The campaign has reached 50% of the $4 million dollar goal thanks to significant donations such as the gift from Morris Turnberry.

The fundraiser will support the expansion of six departments, including the only chemotherapy clinic in Huron and Bruce Counties.

It will help create a healthcare campus for primary care services and upgrade vital equipment.

Campaign Chair Mark Foxton congratulated the councillors for demonstrating their belief that “a prosperous community includes an up to date Hospital”.
