Walkerton Official Plan Reviewed In Brockton

Bruce County's senior planner gave details on the Walkerton Official Plan review at Monday's Brockton Council meeting.

David Smith spoke afterwards about what changes he sees coming for Walkerton in the future.

"Walkerton is a vibrant, growing community, and the face of it continues to change. Different residential things, like moving more to condominiums and away from single family dwellings, seem to be more popular development wise.  Walkerton is in a good position to keep growing and handling different types of growth, like a bigger population."

The  population of Walkerton, according to the official plan review at Monday's council meeting, estimates Walkerton's population will grow by as much as 1,000 by 2026. From a business standpoint, Smith says that can be handled, too.

"Business here is largely driven by the smaller businesses, outside of the odd big thing like a Westario coming occasionally, but there is plenty of undeveloped land for commercial and residential use. Walkerton could certainly accommodate further business growth, and a bigger shopping space potentially, and I foresee it will continue to build in the coming years."
