Goderich town council reversed an earlier decision to rescind the heritage designation on a property at Tuesday night's council meeting.
Goderich resident Beth Ross was one of several who asked that the heritage designation be restored on the cottage at 135 Essex. She argued that the home was designated heritage when the owner purchased it back in the early 90s so they were not attempting to force the designation on an unwilling home owner.
The owner knew what they were purchasing.
Ross also argued that by rescinding the heritage designation the town was setting a very dangerous precedent that would pave the way for anyone in Goderich or anywhere else in the province to ask to have the heritage designation removed from their home.
In a recorded vote council voted 4-3 to restore the heritage designation on the property.
