County officials came together last night in Stratford to show their appreciation for EMS workers.
The celebration was part of Canadian Paramedic Week which highlights the role that medical service workers play in their communities.
The event provided a special opportunity for survivors to thank the paramedics who in many cases, help save their life.
“Paramedics don't always know the outcome of calls afterward, and they don't get the opportunity to talk to the people and this is a great opportunity to do it," says Service Chief Linda Rockwood. "I've spoken to a number of people tonight who are very happy just to be alive and they're ecstatic thinking that I'm just happy to be here. I think that from the paramedic's perspective it's good for them to know the made a difference in other people's lives.”
Canadian Paramedic Week is a chance for the community to show their appreciation for EMS workers and thank those who have gone beyond the call of duty.
“Paramedics are in a very unique position in that they have to take everything with them into a house call. It's always like they're making a house call and trying to do things in a very difficult situation, it's in the back of somewhere car, it's the side of the road, it's in someones bedroom," says Rockwood." They're always taking their medical expertise and knowledge and skill into someone else's environment.”
Paramedics in Perth County will have a new home-base by the end of the year as the construction of their head-quarters in Stratford moves forward.
