Environmental Defence Group Supports Cap And Trade Program

The Campaign Co-ordinator for a group called Environmental Defence is supporting the Provincial Liberals Cap and Trade program.

Patrick DeRochie explains Environmental Defence is a group that hopes to inspire change in the government and the public that protect our environment. He points to the focus on transportation and the building sector as positive steps in the Provincial plan. He believes the effort to encourage electric cars will be effective, as will the money dedicated to encouraging a wide range of home and apartment building retro-fits that will save energy.

DeRochie adds one of the keys to promoting electric cars will be the announcement that the government will be installing 500 charging stations along major highways like the 400 series.

DeRochie adds another thing they really like about the plan is that the revenue it generates will be invested in further proposals to reduce emissions, and they believe that's the way to go to meet their climate targets and drive down emissions.
