Several new local businesses could get a running start after an event in Kincardine Tuesday evening.
It's the first-ever Hawks’ Nest -- which is a 'Dragon’s Den' inspired competition covering Grey, Bruce, Wellington North, Minto and the City of Owen Sound.
Seven entrepreneurs have made it through the rigorous process and will pitch their business ideas to local investors, called 'the Hawks'. Their hope is to secure funding, business advice and mentoring from the high profile business leaders.
Each of the Hawks have committed to invest a minimum of $5,000 on one or more of the entrepreneurs, so there is $25,000 or more up for grabs.
The entrepreneurs will have 3 minutes to pitch their idea to the Hawks, followed by a 5 minute question-and-answer period. After all seven entrepreneurs have made their pitch, the Hawks will begin negotiations and make their investments.
Each member of the audience has a chance to vote for their favourite entrepreneur. Five dollars from each ticket will go into a pot and will be awarded to the entrepreneur with the most audience votes.
The Hawks include: Ashley & Lesya Chapman from Chapman’s Ice Cream of Markdale, Kevin Kelly from Bruce Power, Dr. Bob McFarlane from McFarlane Health Facility in Mount Forest, Tony Solecki from Caframo Ltd. of Wiarton, and Sandy Gott from Ice River Springs Water Company of Feversham.
It all takes place at the Kincardine Beach Pavilion Tuesday evening. (June 21st) There's a social at 6pm and show starting at 7pm. Tickets are $25 and can still be purchased online at www.sbdc.ca or www.bruce.on.ca , at many local Chamber and BIA offices, and at the door that evening.
The Hawks’ Nest is presented by the Saugeen Economic Development Corporation and the Bruce Community Futures Development Corporation.
