Minto Gives Up On Bait Fishing Bylaw

Minto is repealing its bait fishing bylaw.

In the past, Minto had a lot of problems with bait fishers stripping streams of fish.

But Mayor George Bridge says the municipal bylaw regulating bait fishing is unenforceable and the matter is better left to the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Council heard that there have been very few problems in recent years, but Deputy Mayor Ron Faulkner argued for keeping the bylaw on the books because it acted as a deterrent.

Minto has just one bait fisher, licensed to operate in the municipality.
