New C-A-O Hired For Saugeen Shores

Saugeen Shores council has wrapped up its search for a new chief administrative officer.

Council emerged from a closed session on Monday to announce they are hiring David Smith as their new CAO, effective August 8th.

Mayor Mike Smith says a consulting firm helped council narrow down the list of more than 80 applicants for the job, adding David Smith rose above the competition.

"He had researched the community and he knew it very well, he is very skilled and had done a number of strategic plans and if you look at his background, he has a varied background from different areas," says Mayor Smith.   "We thought he was a great candidate."

David Smith had most recently held the CAO position in Halton Hills until last year, and has also worked in municipal government in Mississauga and Waterloo.

He replaces the departing Larry Allison, who announced his retirement earlier this year.
