Just a reminder to parents of youth under the age of 16 that if you're child is out wandering the streets during the wee hours of the morning, they may end up with a ride in a police cruiser.
Early Monday morning, OPP picked up two boys aged 13 and 14 after they were spotted riding their bikes down Wallace Avenue North in Listowel at 1:30am.
Perth County OPP Constable Kees Wijnands spoke with CKNX News and says it's the law.
"Between midnight and six in the morning, anyone under the age of sixteen can't just be wandering the streets by themselves or with another young person unless they are supervised by someone over the age of eighteen," says Wijnands.
Both boys' fathers were awoken during those wee hours of the morning and asked to come to the OPP Detachment in Listowel to pick up their sons.
The curfew legislation falls under the provincial Child & Family Services Act and has been around for along time; it's really nothing new according to police.
However, Provincial Constable Wijnands says their enforcement of the curfew legislation has helped reduce the number of petty crimes in the region during overnight hours.
