Owen Sound Business Fraud

An Owen Sound business is out $55,000 because of fraud.

Police haven't named the business but say the victim responded to what he believed was a legitimate request for someone to work in the area on their behalf.

The fraudster used the names of legitimate companies, including multinational ones, through the fake hiring process of the Owen Sound business.

When the work was done, the local business owner deposited a $55,000 cheque from one of the clients. Money was then transferred from the local business to the fraudulent company that the business was supposedly working for.

The following day the victim learned the original cheque was no good.

Owen Sound police say there are numerous variations of the same fraud with the common factor being the victim receives a cheque which is deposited and money is transferred to the crooks.
