Swimmers Need To Assess Water Safety Before Entering Lake Huron

This week's heavy rain could mean the water along the Lake Huron shoreline is unsafe for swimming.

People should avoid swimming for at least 24 hours after a heavy rainfall or high wave activity. Ultimately it is up to swimmers to decide if it is safe.

Cloudy water usually means increased counts of E.coli.

Health officials advise you to avoid the water if you can't see your feet waist deep.

Grey and Bruce County Beaches have permanent water quality information signs and water tests for unsafe bacteria are only done every other week. The last test was about ten days ago.

All 14 Huron County beaches, on the other hand, are tested twice every week, with the results from this Tuesday's test available on line.
