Huron-Bruce MPP Calls Liberal's Prorogation A "Distraction"

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson says the Liberals are trying to hit the reset button.

After suffering a loss in the Scarborough/Rouge River riding to the Conservatives, and feeling heat from further outcries over hydro rates, Premier Kathleen Wynne declared a proroguing of the legislature with a Crown Speech scheduled for Monday.

Thompson says she thinks the Liberals are trying to distract Ontarians by declaring the proroguing.

"Premier Wynne is incredibly embarrassed by her by-election loss in Scarborough/Rouge River, and she's trying to hit the reset button, and by doing so, she is trying to change the channel and clean up people's image of her," she says.

Thompson thinks mismanagement of key issues have cost the Liberals the trust of voters.

"Their mismanagement of the healthcare file, the education file, the agri-food file, it just has so many examples of poor policies that have cost Ontarians. I think their time is up," she says.

Thompson says the Wynne government is realizing they can't take voters for granted anymore.

"We've lost jobs in unprecedented ways, our electricity rates have gone through the roof, and Ontarians just can't afford this style of government any longer," she says.
