Police Respond To A Rash Of Crashes In Owen Sound

The Owen Sound Police Service is urging drivers to use caution during rainy weather following six separate motor vehicle collisions within a five-hour period on Saturday.

Police say the first collision took place at 10:11am at 10th St. W and 7th Ave. W, between a 2015 Kia and a 2005 Toyota. As a result, a 63-year-old Owen Sound woman has been charged with a making an unsafe turn.

Shortly after at 10:45am, officers responded to 16th Ave. E near 17th St. E after a 2016 GMC SUV exited a private driveway and collided with a 2005 GMC pickup truck. A 75-year-old London man has been charged with failing to yield.

And then at around 12:50pm, a 1999 Honda exited a private driveway into the path of a 2010 Pontiac on 16th St. E near 12 Ave. E.  A 20-year-old Owen Sound woman is facing a failing to yield charge.

Not far away at around 1:55pm, police responded to a crash on 16th St. E between a 2015 Kia and a 2004 Ford. An 82-year-old Owen Sound man has also been charged with failing to yield.

Police say at around 2pm on 10th St. E near 8th Ave. E,  a Dodge Caravan ran rear ended a black 2008 Hyundai, which caused the Hyundai to crash into the rear of a 2016 Chevrolet. Police say the driver of the Dodge left the scene without providing any information. Anyone who has information about this crash is asked to contact police at 519-376- 1234 ext. 163 or through Crime Stoppers.

The final crash occurred at around 3:05pm on 10th St. E and 5th Ave. E, between a 2015 Ford pickup truck, a 2007 Toyota, and two 2010 Chevrolet vehicles. No charges were laid but one person was taken to hospital as a precaution.

No one else was injured in the other collisions earlier in the day.

Drivers are being asked by police to use extra caution during inclement weather and increase their following distance.
