The General Managers of two of Huron County's independent telecommunications providers are cautiously optimistic as they waiting for more information about the SWIFT project.
That's the initiative to bring broadband service to all of Southwestern Ontario.
Angela Lawrence of Hay Communications believes the independents have to be involved in the discussion or they'll be shut out completely. She's also concerned that the priorities of some of the people running the project don't align with the priorities of Huron County.
Rob Van Aaken of Tuckersmith Communications says if there is no provision for delivery of 'the last mile', there's no point in Huron County being involved. He points out putting another trunk line into Goderich or Clinton isn't going to improve anything because they already have all of the trunk lines they need; what they need is delivery of service to that last home.
Both Lawrence and Van Aaken agree that the intentions of most of the people involved meet their expectations, but a lot of the details of the proposal are still missing.
