A request from an Auburn woman for a leash-free dog park in the village has been referred by Central Huron Council to staff for further review.
Jacqui Empson Laporte asked for council's support for a dog park in a field behind the ball diamond in Auburn that's owned by the municipality. She explained they would need one park for small dogs and another for larger dogs, and they would have to be fenced in.
They have already raised about $1,700, and the Huron Bay Co-operative farm supply store has offered to donate cedar posts and fencing, so all they need is approval to use the municipality's field, some design work and the installation of the fence.
Empson Laporte says there are no lights in the area so it would not be used after dark. It could be used through the winter, depending on how much snow accumulated.
