Too Many Stray Cats In Bayfield and Hensall

Stray cats are becoming a problem in the villages of Bayfield and Hensall.

Bluewater Mayor Tyler Hessel says in Bayfield they seem to be concentrated in the Howard St. area just off the main street. He's asking residents to resist the temptation to feed them unless they plan to adopt them, because the more food that's available to them, the more of them will be attracted to the area.

He also points out that stray cats tend to get into garbage that's left out and roam onto the property of people who don't particularly want them there.

Owners of house cats are advised to make sure their pet has up-to-date shots, because stray cats tend to carry diseases.

Bluewater council has not settled on a strategy to deal with the stray cats, but is consulting with the SPCA.
