A group of Huron County residents concerned about the distribution of residential hospice beds in Huron and Perth counties recently held a public meeting in Goderich.
Spokesperson Jay McFarlan explains the Southwest LHIN has designated five beds for Perth County and five in Huron County. The current proposed distribution would see five beds in Stratford and possibly three in Exeter and the remaining two somewhere else in Huron.
McFarlan says the concern is that a concentration of residential hospice beds in South Huron doesn't do much for the rest of the county, and one suggestion was that at least two of those beds and perhaps more should be moved further north, not necessarily to Goderich, but to Clinton or Wingham.
McFarlan says they're holding another public meeting on October 19 at the Central Huron Community Centre in Clinton at 7pm.
They are also planning public meetings in Wingham and Zurich, but they don't have dates or locations for those meetings yet.
