Busy Year For Many Local Contractors

It's been a good year for new construction in many parts of Midwestern Ontario.

In Wellington North for example, Chief Building Official Darren Jones reports that 209 permits were issue to the end of September, for a value of $27-million. That's about 30% above the average for the past ten years.

In Meaford, the municipality issued 194 permits to the end of September, worth almost $23-million in building value.

Chief Building Official Rick Carefoot says that represents an increase of about 150% over the same nine-month period of 2015.  26 permits were for detached single-family homes in the Municipality of Meaford; 11 were for multi-residential units, and 38 were for renovations.

Deputy Mayor Harley Greenfield is quite pleased, stating "so far this year we’ve seen an increase in every sector of the building industry in Meaford... single family homes, condos, agricultural buildings, and there are three months left in 2016. So, it’s possible we could see another record year in building."
