Residents Support Healthy Food Options At Grey Bruce Recreation Facilities

A survey about the food options available at local recreation facilities found 88% would like to see healthier selections.

And 85% of the 700 respondents indicated they would buy the same amount or more at concessions with healthy choices.

The survey was conducted last June to support healthy food choices and tap water at recreation areas.

Health Promoter Jason Weppler says they will work with municipal partners to look at offering healthier choices along with the usual fare.

They will also review food contracts, consider installing water bottle refill stations and ensure at least one healthy option per concession stand.

“As a family we visit recreational spaces as part of the healthy lifestyle. It would be great if the food options complemented that,” commented one survey respondent.

Another shared, “Children should be visiting these spaces to learn about healthy lifestyles, not be bombarded by junk food. I don’t want my kids expecting an unhealthy snack after each healthy activity.”
