Huron County councillors are in the process of reviewing the structure of their council committees.
C-A-O Brenda Orchard explains they just completed a finance policy review where they looked at all of the mandatory and discretionary costs for every department, and one of the recommendations that came out of that exercise was that they do the same thing for every committee of council. Orchard says the review will include a look at the composition of each committee, the per diem given to each member of the committee for each meeting they attend, the mandate of the committee and the frequency of their meetings, and the overall cost of having that committee.
Orchard points out the time lines for the committee review are tight because they want to have it done in time for the election of a new warden on November 23rd. It's at that meeting that councillors are appointed to sit on the various committees. Orchard says the first meeting of the review committee was held this past week.
