Members of the Saugeen First Nation Band Council are organizing a Unity Walk in support of the Standing Rock Tribe.
The Standing Rock Tribe are water protectors acting against the Dakota Access Pipeline and the resulting destruction of their burial grounds.
This event on Tuesday has support from the OPP and Saugeen Shores Police Service. Saugeen Band Councillors will be doing a deputation at the Saugeen Shores council meeting tonight to ask for their support and participation as well.
The Unity Walk will start from two locations shortly after 1pm Tuesday -- the Saugeen First Nation’s Youth Centre, and the Southampton St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.
The two groups will join together on the bridge just before 2pm before moving to Scubby’s Point, on the north side of the river mouth, for a Water Ceremony at 2:30pm.
They will be bused back to the James Mason Centre at 4pm. for speeches, education, and food. There will also be drummers and dancers involved.
Participants are encouraged to wear blue tops in recognition of the fact that "Water is Life."
Saugeen First Nation asks that no photos or video be taken during ceremonies.
