North Perth Sees Sharp Decline In OMPF Funding For 2017

The province recently made available the 2017 Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund allocations for municipalities, and another sharp reduction is at hand.

North Perth CAO Kriss Snell says it will certainly make things more difficult as far as determining next year's budget.

"The OMPF reductions are going to have a substantial impact on our revenue, so again, it's up to municipalities to look to additional or alternate sources of revenue," says Snell.

The North Perth OMPF decrease from last year is $218,400, which is a 14.4% decrease and will cause a 2.4% addition to the tax levy before next year's budget process.

Snell says council would prefer a stabilized funding number from the province to make budget time easier.

"There's been wide variances over the last 12 years, and it's difficult for staff and council to plan with such wide granting variances from the province," he says.

The Provincial Gas Tax Fund for 2017 for the municipality is set for $58,400, which is a decrease over last year as well.
