Members of a committee given the job of finding a name for a new elementary school in Owen Sound are asking for public input.
Students now attending Sydenham Community School and Bayview Public School will be going to the newly-combined school next September.
The Owen Sound Naming Committee, which includes student, staff, and community representation from both schools, is seeking name submissions from the public.
The deadline is Wednesday, November 30th.
Names can be submitted through any of the communications methods listed below:
- Online at the following SurveyMonkey link, which will be posted to the websites of Sydenham Community School, Bayview Public School and Bluewater District School Board: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/schoolnaming
- Community suggestion boxes the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library, YMCA/Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre reception area, Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound, Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, Sydenham and Bayview main school offices.
- Social media on Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag, #nameourschoolos or visit www.facebook.com/Name-Our-School-Owen-Sound-570033343182302
Each submission should include a suggested school name, along with supporting rationale for that name choice.
After November 30th, the Naming Committee will create a short list of school names from the submitted suggestions.
That short list will be made public, and local feedback will be accepted in January.
