Better Care, Better Future Campaign Seeks New CT Scanner In Listowel

North Perth Council voted unanimously to support a new fundraising project by the Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation on Monday night.

Foundation Chair Ron Coghlin gave a presentation on bringing a new CT scanner to the area, called the Better Care Better Future campaign. Coghlin says he’s very pleased that council voted unanimously to bring the project forward to the budget committee.

“We couldn’t feel better, I think we’re pretty gratified. I didn’t come with that expectation tonight, I thought it would be deferred and voted on, and I did not expect a unanimous decision like that. It was wonderful.”

The project will cost 2 million dollars. Coghlin says North Perth residents will save upwards of 190,000 km of travelling to other hospitals with CT scanners if there’s one in Listowel.

Coghlin also says among saving residents a lot of driving to other areas with a CT scanner, having one in Listowel would serve a very important purpose.

“Primarily emergency medicine would just be that much easier, to make a quick diagnoses, and make critical decisions for saving lives where time is of the essence sort of thing.”
