Owen Sound police say the weather played havoc on the roads as city motorists faced the first major snowfall of the season during rush hour Thursday afternoon.
Police started receiving 911 calls about 4:30pm as road conditions deteriorated, and multiple cars became stranded on the east and west hills.
Soon after, police were kept busy responding to motor vehicle collisions that can be blamed on driver error or not being prepared for winter.
Police say many vehicles they encountered were without snow tires, or had poor tire tread that directly impacted their ability to negotiate winter weather.
Buy 7:30pm, police had responded to nine collisions, a stranded school bus, a jack-knifed tractor trailer, and a hostile collision related dispute.
An unoccupied vehicle slid into traffic from a driveway and a snow plow knocked down a hydro pole. Friday morning, five more collisions were reported.
