A Christmas Day Dinner at the Harriston Community Centre will celebrate fellowship and the true meaning of the season.
Most of the food has been donated, and multiple volunteers are lending a hand.
Jean Anderson and her husband Dave are hosting the dinner, which starts at 1pm.
"We'd like to get them away from being alone," says Jean I helped out for a day with Meals on Wheels, it was take a politician to work, and going into some of those homes and these people living all by themselves, and at Christmas time, being an Emergency Nurse, it's a lonely time, it's a time when depression gets worse."
Anderson says rides are available along with home delivery. They will also ensure everyone working in the Community Christmas day gets a meal.
"I'm not able to work right now because of health issues related to cancer, but I can still cook... So ordinarily I'd be working Christmas Day," says Jean. "So we wanted to do something, help with a food kitchen, or soup kitchen, but there isn't one. So I said why don't we just do it ourselves. So, I sit on [Minto] Council, I asked if we could have the use of the community centre, and we started spreading the word, and it has just taken off like wildfire!"
Anyone who would like to take part in the fellowship can call 519-505- 5914 or just drop by for the 1pm dinner. Meals will be delivered to anyone who asks at noon, including to people working at local gas stations and convenience stores.
Emergency workers are being asked to come out, or just drop by and get a meal to go.
About 100 people are expected.
Jean says people can call 211 to find Christmas meals being served in other communities.
