Township Of Chatsworth Emergency Committee Meets Monday

The Township of Chatsworth remains in a state of emergency due to flooding.

Eight homes, including two businesses in Willamsford were evacuated Friday morning when the North Saugeen River spilled over its banks and flooded the town.

Donna Vickers and her husband Ed live on the main street and are staying in a motel.   "We've lived here 43 years now and this is the worst it's ever been," says Vickers.

About 40 cottages are affected by the flooding at McCullough Lake.   Some people have left their homes and others are staying.

The Red Cross and Victims' Services are helping look after people affected by the flood. A shelter has been set up at the Williamsford Community Centre and motel and food vouchers are available for the evacuees.

Meanwhile, Chatsworth's emergency committee met Sunday morning.

Mayor Bob Pringle says it's hard to say how long it will be before those evacuated can return home.

"At this point we want to keep everyone safe and we're asking them just to be patient and we'll get to where we've got the power restored and they will be able to return at some point," says Pringle.

Highway 6 through Williamsford has been closed since Friday morning and vehicles rerouted around the village.   The OPP re-opened the highway late Sunday, but many Township roads remain closed.

They are: Sideroad 8 between Concession 4 and 6 Robson Road from Highway 10 to Eastback Line Concession 3B West Back Line to Negro Creek Road McCullough Lake Drive East Park Road East Back Line between 30 and 60 Sideroad Sideroad 60 between Concession 2 and 3B West Back Line between Sideroad 60 and 70 Sideroad 80 from West Back Line to Highway 10.

Mayor Pringle says the state of emergency will be reassessed when the emergency committee meets again Monday.
