The mayor of Goderich is urging his council members to visit the Marine Museum at the foot of West St.
The county wants to get rid of the museum because revenue from visitors isn't coming close to covering maintenance costs, so the museum has been offered to the town.
Mayor Kevin Morrison says he's toured the museum both inside and outside. He says if the town assumes ownership it will take a lot of money to bring it up to acceptable standards.
Morrison adds he's surprised it hasn't been cordoned off for safety reasons.
He has asked all of the councillors to go through the Marine Museum so they'll have an idea of what's involved before they make a decision on its future.
