The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority has issued an updated watershed conditions statement and flood outlook.
Current forecasts suggest the area could receive total precipitation amounts in the range of 25-35 mm over the next 24 hours depending on how the weather system tracks through southern Ontario.
Ground conditions across the watershed are saturated and any significant rainfall will lead to a quick runoff into streams and rivers.
Minor flooding is possible in traditional low-lying flood plains. That would include roads that are prone to periodic flooding.
Stream flows are expected to peak in the smaller streams Friday morning, and late Friday on the larger watercourses. As a result, flows will remain higher than normal through the weekend.
Municipal staff will monitor local drainage problem areas.
Residents are reminded to stay away from all watercourses. The extremely cold water, combined with slippery and unstable stream banks, has created hazardous conditions near all waterways.
