Owen Sound 2017 Volunteers Of The Year Announced

The City of Owen Sound has announced the winners of the 2017 Volunteer of the Year award.

Cathy Lindsay and Rod Wyatt will be honoured at next Monday's council meeting.

Lindsay has been part of countless organizations and community events. She is a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and volunteers for Springfest, OSHare, blood donor clinics, and the Alzheimer Society Grey Bruce.

"Cathy is indispensable as office support for the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce, providing assistance and guidance on a variety of projects and initiatives,” stated Jennifer Isber-Legge of the Alzheimer Society. “Cathy embodies the spirit of volunteerism with an unfailing can-do attitude and a generous heart.”

Wyatt is a sport enthusiast who spends much of his time giving back to minor sports.

He has volunteered for the local Minor Soccer Association for over 30 years, and spent 20 years as a volunteer with Owen Sound Minor Hockey, as well as the Heart and Stroke Foundation. He now lends his time to non profit housing.

“Volunteers are the backbone of our community," said Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy. “Both Cathy and Rod have displayed tremendous selflessness and generosity. Our community is lucky to have them and I am so pleased they have been selected to receive this prestigious award.”
