Huron East Studying Main Street Proposals For Seaforth

A group of Masters planning students from Guelph University have presented Huron East council with some creative changes to the main street in Seaforth.

Huron East Economic Development Officer Jan Hawley says major road construction is planned for Seaforth's main street over the next three years, so this seemed the appropriate time to consider any other renovations for the main street while the construction was in the planning stage.

Hawley says they were looking at bike lanes, and then realized they don't have bike racks were cyclists. They also have very little in the way of street furniture for people to sit and enjoy the main street.

Hawley says they also considered outdoor patios but were limited because of the size of sidewalks so they're looking at pop-up patios that are becoming very popular in cities like Toronto and Barrie.

Hawley says the ultimate goal is to encourage people to visit the downtown area and stay longer.

All of the costs involved in this planning project are borne by the University of Guelph so Hawley says that's an added bonus.
