Grey County OPP Issuing Warning About Grad And Prom Parties

Grey County OPP are warning parents of the dangers of graduation or after prom parties.

With the end of the school year quickly approaching, OPP remind residents that any party involving youth with access to drugs or alcohol, can create unnecessary risks.

Police say youth who drink alcohol are a higher risk of harm compared to adults because of their inexperience and lower tolerance.

Decisions made under the influence can lead to dangerous situations, injury or death.

The OPP warn parents and caregivers of the inherent dangers of attending or hosting parties for youth, as property owners can be held civilly responsible for anyone injured on their land.

Police say they are often called to unsupervised or field parties involving youth to investigate reports of assault, theft, mischief, and drug or alcohol crimes.

If you choose to host or attend an after prom or grad party, police warn there will be an increased OPP presence to ensure people can enjoy the gathering in a safe responsible manner.
