NRStor Application Approved By Goderich Council

Goderich council has approved the site plan application for a proposal to store compressed air in an abandoned salt cavern.

However, it was a close 4-3 vote with Mayor Kevin Morrison casting the deciding ballot Monday night.

After the meeting, Morrison pointed out the NRStor proposal met all of the municipal zoning requirements, complies with the provincial official plan and town's official plan, and he's confident council made the right decision.

Morrison believes the pilot project is a great opportunity for Goderich to lead the way in a new technology.

Last week, Huron County's Economic Development Board endorsed the proposal to store compressed air in abandoned salt caverns in Goderich.

Board Chair Jim Lynn says this is a relatively small project, but it sends a message that Goderich and Huron County are open to innovation.
