LDSS Student Wins Libro Scholarship Award

A student at LDSS in Listowel got a special surprise Friday.

Libro in Wingham presented a cheque for $2,000 to Tabetha Hayden, who submitted an essay to Libro in a contest to earn the scholarship award. Tabetha's essay was chosen and she was very excited about her great big cheque.

"Well I'm completely shocked, I had no idea, I wasn't fully expecting it obviously. I just applied because you need scholarships and money for post-secondary, but this is a great surprise, a good way to end a Friday."

Tabetha says she's extremely grateful, and hopes to begin her journey towards becoming a nurse next year.

"I definitely plan on being an RN. I stayed a 5th year so I could figure that out more. I did a co-op at the hospital last year, and that definitely helped me to decide. Now that I know I want to do nursing, I haven't officially accepted anywhere yet, but I'm thinking Western in London."

After accepting the cheque from Libro, Tabetha says that it's great that local groups like Libro try to help young people follow their dreams.

"This is amazing, Libro in Wingham is so great, they're so helpful, and it's amazing that people want to do this and help us young people."
