The Bluewater District School Board is continuing to try and provide an open environment regarding youth mental health in its schools.
Board Communications Officer Jamie Pettit says having a safe environment to foster good mental health is part of the schoolboard's plan.
"Certainly when it comes to student and staff well-being, that's part-and-parcel of our school board strategic plan. We do have a strategic priority to ensure the well-being of students and staff, and a safe supportive environment for teaching, learning and working."
Pettit says a number of different things happen throughout the school year to teach staff and students about mental health.
"In our elementary schools, we've had the Canadian Mental Health Association. They've done a number of presentations for students on a wide range of topics. Mental Health Days are quite common. We've even had, over the years, a number of student-driven Mental Health Days."
