Canadian Mental Health Association Hosting Bike Flash Mob In Owen Sound

The Grey-Bruce Canadian Mental Health Association is getting set to bring the noise to downtown Owen Sound on Thursday.

The health association is holding its first ever Bike Flash Mob to help raise awareness for mental health.

"It's going to be a group of people, on bikes, or any sort of wheels actually, so if you rollerblade come on out," says fundraising and event coordinator April Robinson. "We're going to make some noise, and we're going to be very colourful, and make some noise for mental health in downtown Owen Sound."

Robinson says they thought it would be a cool thing to try in Owen Sound.

"We thought this event would be best for Owen Sound, actually for all of Grey and Bruce, to raise awareness for mental health," she says. "It's something that's never been done before, and we wanted something that was not so casual, something different."

Bikers, rollerbladers, or even walkers are encouraged to gather at the Metro Parking lot in Owen Sound Thursday morning for 11:45am, and to bring noisemakers and bright clothes for the ride into downtown that will run until 12:30pm.

Robinson says it is extremely important to keep talking about mental health.

"It's breaking down the stigma, breaking down the discrimination, and getting people to talk about mental health, their personal mental health, getting their friends and family to talk about it. Also, getting people the help they need when they need it, and the support, which sometimes is all they need," she says.
