Huron County Council Delays Decision On Hiring Consultant

The chair of Huron County's Economic Development Board says he appreciated the opportunity to present the board's request to Huron County council to hire a consultant.

Jim Lynn says the board wants to hire a consultant at an estimated cost of $60,000 to look into how government services are delivered.  Lynn says that could range from keeping the status quo, to significant sharing of services, to some partnerships, with an eye to what would work best five or ten years from now.

Lynn says says sometimes what was the perfect solution five years ago becomes today's problem. So the challenge is not necessarily what should be added, but what needs to be taken away.

There was some pushback from some of the county councillors who were concerned that this might be the first step on the path to single-tier government.  They decided to defer the request for more discussion before a decision is made.
