West Perth Mayor Walter McKenzie says getting Connecting Links funding for the Blanshard Street Bridge was great in terms of aiding the project, which is a key roadway.
"It's a necessity for us, a Connecting Link of course, it's a provincial highway. A good percentage of the traffic that travels that road is provincial traffic, not necessarily local traffic, so we have lobbied long and hard to continue that."
McKenzie says the application for the grant was submitted last year.
"We got the Connecting Links funding for the bridge just over a year ago, and it helps complete that project and we're very pleased to get it."
Mayor McKenzie says the project will be completed on Blanshard Street Bridge before the summer is over, potentially sooner. The total cost of the project is just over 266-thousand dollars.
