The Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh has made a few adjustments to its council for next year's municipal election.
Reeve Ben Van Diepenbeek explains that under the current system, the reeve is elected at large and then each of the three wards elect two councillors, and the deputy reeve is chosen from those councillors. That gave them a total of seven council members, including the Reeve.
But Van Diepenbeek says they wanted to have the deputy reeve run at large as well, but they also wanted to hold the number of council members to seven.
What they've settled on is the reeve and deputy reeve will run at large, as will two other councillors. Each of the three wards will elect one councillor, bringing the total to seven.
