Maitland Conservation has rescinded a flood warning as Lower Maitland River water levels continue to drop.
The conservation authority says the river peaked on Saturday at around 10pm, and since then, levels have slowly lowered. The warning was initially issued on Friday after heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding throughout the region.
While water levels are continuing to drop, the public is advised to use caution as the flow in the Lower Maitland River remains very fast. The water flow was measured at 198 cubic metres per second at Benmiller, with the average for this time of year usually hitting only 20 cubic metres per second.
A water conditions statement remains in effect for the area, with the conservation authority urging residents to avoid activities such as fishing and canoeing as the water courses remain unsafe.
