Goderich Hydro Future To Be Decided Next Month

A decision on a merger of Goderich Hydro with Erie-Thames Hydro has been deferred by Goderich council until it's July 17th meeting.

Mayor Kevin Morrison says there was a lot of information packed into an hour-long presentation at Monday night's meeting, and council wants more time to digest that information.

Morrison says there's no appetite for selling Goderich Hydro, and standing alone isn't reasonable either since the Province has already shrunk the number of stand-alone distribution companies from over 300 to about 65.

They could continue to partner with Erie-Thames or they could merge, and at this point a merger appears to be the most advantageous to Goderich residents.

Morrison says it would help to be part of a bigger organization like Erie-Thames and would also keep the control of rates out of the hands of the Province.

The Mayor adds Goderich Hydro is a huge asset to the town so this decision is one of the biggest this council will make and they want to make sure it's the right one.
