Huron OPP say lifejackets helped save five people aboard two catamarans that capsized in Lake Huron on Canada Day.
Police, coast guard, and paramedics were called around 1:20pm to an area just north of St. Joseph's.
Five people were dumped into the lake about half a kilometre from shore by choppy waters caused by a storm cell.
They were able to use a whistle to alert people on shore and, before emergency crews arrived, they made it safely to land.
The OPP are encouraging all boaters to have safety equipment on board including lifejackets, a compass, and a sail plan, check the marine weather forecast, and refrain from consuming alcohol.
