Aggressive Drivers On Wellington And Grey County OPP Radar

Wellington County OPP nabbed a number of motorists during the long weekend crackdown on aggressive driving.

Police say 70 speeding charges were handed out, along with 26 seatbelt charges, and 21 other Highway Traffic Act charges. Police also laid two liquor licence violations, one charge for distracted driving, one insurance charge, two impaired charges and four marine offences.

Wellington County officers also investigated 23 motor vehicle collisions, with many of them the result of drivers not paying enough attention.

"Despite the education and the tragic consequences we have already seen on our roadways this year, drivers continue to put themselves and others at risk with excessive speed and poor driving decisions. We will continue to make our presence known on the roads and highways and encourage everyone to slow down and ensure everyone arrives safely," says Detachment Commander Scott Lawson. "I'm grateful that in spite of 23 motor vehicle collisions this weekend, we didn't see any serious injuries. I really encourage drivers to be conscious of their speed and to focus on the road."

In the meantime, Grey County OPP were also out looking for aggressive drivers, and stopped over 1,000 vehicles during the long weekend.

There were 45 speeders charged, along with two distracted drivers, and three impaired drivers in Grey County.

Perth County and Huron County OPP each laid 66 charges of speeding during the weekend enforcement campaign.
