Clinton Laneway Becomes Cozy Public Area

Central Huron's community improvement coordinator has demonstrated once again that necessity is the mother of invention.

Angela Smith had sold students in the Clinton area on the idea of using the lane between the south side of the town hall and the adjacent building, as a place for art and photographic displays.

The students were working on their exhibits when a fire in March removed five buildings including the south wall of the lane and left an empty space.

Students in the construction class built the flower boxes and Smith planted them and the new lane was created.

Smith says it is now a public place where anyone can sit down and have lunch or just watch the traffic go by.  They can also sit down at the piano in the lane and play a few tunes.

The piano in the lane and across the street are both part of the Piano in the Streets project.  Five schools in the area painted and decorated five donated pianos.

The other three are located at Willies Burgers on Hwy. 8, one at the Clinton Raceway, and one at the Londesboro ball diamond.
