Representatives of the Port to Point Trail Association addressed Huron County council at Wednesday's meeting.
They asked for two things; a letter of support from council for the trail from Goderich to Point Farms Provincial Park and some help from county staff in preparing applications for government funding.
President Monique Aunder says they can't do any fund-raising until they get MTO approvals in place, such as an environmental assessment and a preliminary design. But she says that will take about $120,000, which they don't have. She adds that it's difficult to do any fund-raising until those approvals are in place.
Past-President Con Melady raises the same point and says it's too early at this point to put a price on the construction. But he says they're also losing support and board members because of the lack of progress.
The association has asked Goderich for help and Goderich Mayor Kevin Morrison says he thinks the trail is a great idea. However, Morrison wants to see a little more progress before he can get completely behind the project.
County council approved a motion to send the request to staff for a report.
The Port to Point Trail runs through Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh and A-C-W Reeve Ben Van Diepenbeek told council they pulled their representative off the Trail Association board because he said nothing was happening.
