Huron County OPP promises a highly visible presence over the long weekend, to ensure motorists are staying safe.
Police expect heavy traffic volumes along the Lake Huron coastline as cottagers and vacationers enjoy beaches and waterways.
The OPP will have focused patrols along Hwy. 21 and all county roadways that lead to Lake Huron, including Dashwood Rd., County Rd. 83.
Recent collisions have occurred at that intersection of Dashwood and 21.
Officers will pay particular attention to distracted or impaired driving, seatbelt violations, and failing to move over for emergency vehicles.
"I encourage drivers to stay sober, slow down and stay completely focused on the task of driving when behind the wheel. Unfortunately, all too often we have seen the deadly results when someone fails to drive with the necessary care and attention that is required. It's pretty simple - obey the rules of the road, they are there for a reason," said Huron OPP Traffic Unit Sergeant Nigel Heels.
