Huron OPP Says Motorists And Students Start The School Year Safely

Huron OPP says the first day back to school was accident-free in their region, with drivers in school zones clearly using extra caution.

The OPP says students were also being careful, and they are asking everyone to continue to slow down, obey traffic devices, and expect the unexpected.

Huron OPP will conduct enhanced patrols around various school zones to ensure everyone is safe.

Parents are asked to ensure their children know to stay on the sidewalk when it is available and use the services of the crossing guard when possible.

Avoid listening to music or using mobile devices while cycling or walking near the road. It's also a good idea for children to use the buddy system when walking to school.

Motorists need to be aware of school zones, reduce speeds, and be patient with children, who can make mistakes.

Rember to share the road, and stop for school buses if the lights are activated.
