Huron County's Local Immigration Partnership Council was a first-time exhibitor at this year's International Plowing Match in Walton.
Huron County Immigration Liaison Kristin Crane says the goal was to demonstrate the value of newcomers to Huron County as well as provide some statistics that illustrated the need for immigration into Huron.
“Birth rate [in Huron County] is declining, the population is declining, the population is ageing, there is a high number of people over the age of 55, so a large portion of the population will be retiring and we need to replace that with a working-age population, so different statistics like that," says Crane.
Crane adds their exhibit also included a map of the world and people were invited to indicate where on the map their ancestors came from and the goal was to make the point that at some point their family came from somewhere else and had to resettle in Canada just as immigrants are today.
