The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority has approved the contents for what Supervisor of Water and Planning Geoff Cade hopes will become a pamphlet and checklist that will help property owners apply for permission to employ various erosion prevention tools along the Lake Huron shoreline.
Cade points out higher water levels are resulting in more shoreline erosion and that creating more demand for measures to reduce the erosion.
He says the pamphlet would provide landowners and contractors with the type of information they need to fill out a permit application.
He believes the pamphlet would also streamline the process because it would eliminate the need for people from the conservation authority to go back and forth several times looking for new information.
Cade also points out they're not creating any new legislation, but simply bringing the current legislation together in one pamphlet that will hopefully be easy to use and make it easier for property owners to fill out permit applications.
“The board approved the content of it but I envision it's ultimately like a pamphlet or something along with a checklist intended to guide landowners and contractors, providing the type of information that we need to see as part of a permit application," he says. "The intent is not only to inform what people need to submit but I hope it helps to streamline things because then the Authority won't be going back and forth multiple times asking for bits of information that would go into what we would call a complete application.”
